Social media went viral with a video showing Matthew Wade blocking England fast bowler Mark Wood from catching a ball. However, a new debate has also arisen from this video.
An argument ensued when Matthew Wade prevented Mark Wood from catching a ball during the first T20 between England and Australia. When Matthew Wade attempted to catch a shot of Mark Wood in the 17th over, the Australian team was chasing a target of 209 runs. Wood ran toward the striking end to catch the ball as it went straight up. Meanwhile, Matthew Wade stopped Wood from taking a catch with his arm on the way back to the wicket as he headed toward the striking end.
Although Jos Buttler raised his arm in concern, Mathew Wade avoided dismissal. Social media users have also argued about Matthew Wade’s action, some referring to it as “sportsmanship,” and others pointing out he doesn’t even know where the ball is, yet still stopped Markwood. ICC has not yet responded to the issue. England won the first T20I by eight runs after an exciting match.
